With a large amount of experience in the restaurant industry, husband and wife team Jack and Natalie Skilliter decided to open their own restaurant in the Oregon District of Dayton. Their restaurant demonstrates their love of the community, commitment to excellence and passion for flavor.

Lily's Bistro, 329 E 5th St, Dayton, OH 45402

Started by Emily Mendenhall and her mother in 2013, the name Lily's Bistro is actually a combination of their first names: Lisa and Emily. Although they had a tight budget in the beginning, they were able to successfully open the business and since then it has quickly grown. 

Popular menu items: Beignets (fried dough covered in powdered sugar), Fried Chicken and Deviled Eggs.

Roost Modern Italian, 524 E 5th St, Dayton, OH 45402

Roost Modern Italian was opened by Dana Downs and Beth Hirschbach in 2011. Dana Downs was voted "Dayton's Best Chef" in 2012. The two started out in the food industry in 2009 by opening their own catering company, and eventually decided to open a new restaurant that focused on creating delicious Italian dishes with a modern twist. 

Popular menu items: Asiago Crusted Chicken, Parmesan Fries and the Bistro Burger.

Coco's Bistro, 250 Warren St, Dayton, OH 45402

Coco's Bistro is a Dayton original independent business. The restaurant prides itself in offering amazing service and reasonably priced wine and spirits. 

Popular menu items: Shrimp Scampi, Fried Brie and Creme Brulee.

Old Scratch Pizza, 812 S Patterson Blvd, Dayton, OH 45402

Old Scratch Pizza was opened by husband and wife team Eric and Stephanie Soller of Oakwood. The two wanted to open a pizzeria and beer hall that would offer Neopolitan pizza, which offers a thin crust cooked quickly in 800-degree ovens. 

Popular menu items: Roasted Cauliflower, Meatballs and of course, Pizza!

Winds Cafe, 215 Xenia Ave, Yellow Springs, OH 45387

Winds Cafe offers a seasonal menu that changes bimonthly. The cafe started as a collectively owned restaurant, and the kitchen was presided over by cook Iko Wright. Over the years, she taught other cooks correct techniques and provided lessons that continue to inspire the restaurant forty years later. 

Popular seasonal menu items: Squash and Pumpkin Lasagna and an expert wine selection.

Jay's Seafood, 225 E 6th St, Dayton, OH 45402

Jay's is essentially a continuation of a restaurant opened by James Ritty called the Pony House. The bar in Jay's restaurant is the bar from the Pony House that was made from 5,400 pounds of Honduras Mahogany. Rumor has it that some well known visitors such as Buffalo Bill Cody have even visited the restaurant!

Popular menu items: Greek-Style Swordfish, Clam Chowder and Fish Tacos.

The Pine Club, 1926 Brown St, Dayton, OH 45409

The Pine Club is a Dayton tradition and is considered "One of the Great Steakhouses in the Country." It was opened in 1947 by Jim Sullivan and has been passed on to different owners over the years. However, the club still appears to look like what it did in 1957, when the restaurant was expanded.

Popular menu items: Steak, Stewed Tomatoes and Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

Thai 9, 11 Brown St, Dayton, OH 45402

Robert Strong co-founded Thai 9 with his wife, Nongyaw. The two moved from Cincinnati to the Dayton area where Strong was originally from to start the business. His wife's experience working at Thai restaurants gave them the idea to open this unique restaurant. 

Popular menu items: Duck Basil and Pad Thai (noodles in a peanut sauce with veggies).

Olive Mediterranean Grill, 6129 N Dixie Dr, Dayton, OH 45414

Olive Mediterranean Grill was opened by Kim Collett in 2011. Kim sought to provide menu options that would be friendly to vegans and vegetarians, and now works with 80 farmers. If you are looking for great tasting and nutritional Mediterranean food, be sure to check out this unique restaurant!
